Clay CGI 'The Matrix' Recreation

Ever wonder what the ending of The Matrix would look like with Gumby? Well, here it is! I created this animation as a final project for an Animation 1 course at Drexel. The prompt was to recreate a 30-second clip from an iconic movie with household objects. These characters were originally supposed to be spaghetti noodles flinging meatballs at each other, but I later realized my models would better fit a clay theme. The process taken to create this involved storyboarding, creating an animatic, modelling, texturing, rigging, and animating! Lots of work was put into it, I hope you enjoy it! The HDRI used for lighting this scene is "Carpentry Shop 02" by Greg Zaal, and can be found at HDRI Haven here: https://hdrihaven.com/hdri/?c=indoor&h=carpentry_shop_02

Models and rigs were made in Maya, materials and textures were made through Redshift and Substance Painter. The second half of this video compares it to the original clip.

Storyboard outlined in Illustrator, and arranged in Photoshop. I used these stills to reference each cut made in the film, then matched the timing frame-for-frame in Animate.
